Reviews
We stayed at Borked am See for a week with our family. We enjoyed our stay overall. The safari tent we stayed in was clean and well maintained (although I suspect it was new for the season). The camping site is spacious and clean as well. Lots of playgrounds, great for the kids. There's an outdoor swimming pool which is rather small given the size of the campsite. It's quite busy on hot days and there's not a lot of room. The nearby lake is another option however, calling it a lake is quite generous, it's more like a big pond. The water is rather muddy which makes swimming not so enjoyable.
There's also a 'bistro' which serves both the campsite and visitors to the lake, honestly, just skip the place. The food is pretty terrible.
You can pick up bread in the morning, but this is limited to kaiser rolls and plain white rolls which they receive prebaked and finish in an onsite oven.
Cars aren't allowed on the campsite to make it more kid friendly, yet we saw several of them drive around during our stay. The same goes for noise rules. It's supposed to be quiet at 22.00 but it wasn't during our stay. Camping staff simply doesn't enforce these rules.
Overall, I'd say this campsite lacks a certain atmosphere. In Dutch we'd say it's not really 'gezellig' which is a concept that's hard to translate to any other language. I don't know if it's the pitches being miles apart or the generally 'forced hospitality' demeanour of the staff, probably a combination of factors. We wouldn't return here in the future.
New and clean camping area. Lots of activities for kids. Family friendly. When arriving you are welcomed with luggage transfer from the parking lot to your cabin. Stayed in a cabin.
Average in general, but really good place for small kids (6-10). Overall would give it 3.5. If you are looking for a lakeside campsite, like I did, it is frustrating because,
a. it is not really by the lake (real close though but you have to share it with all the other 10 thousand people in the neighbourhood and may not be able to go due to the limit on maximum number of people allowed)
b. The so called lake is a muddy pond slightly bigger than a bath-tub, with no water in or outlet. Seriously, the beach must be 50m. long and it is MUDDY. It smells even mud.
Like I said, your 10 year old would probably love it but you'll not be pleased with the pond.
As for the campsite, it is decent and it has enough playgrounds for small children but overall it is average. Almost nobody speaks English, no signs in English, no documents in English. Even though it is advertised that they have hiking maps, none could be provided.
Finally, they charge 4 euro/day/device for internet! It is nothing less than scandalous. I find it a cheap trick to milk the customer and they should immediately provide free unlimited internet for multiple devices.
Very nice place. Amazing landscape. Great for kids
We were only going on holiday for a short time, so we wanted to stay closer to home. This gem, a 2-hour drive away, was a perfect find! Received a warm welcome and given an entire tour on the back of the golf cart with luggage and dog. This year is the 5th season that this campsite has been running, the playgrounds still look brand new, the swimming pool is new, you can pick up sandwiches from the kiosk at the pool: no choice in sandwiches (Kaiser or dots) but fresh and tasty sandwiches, no supermarket on site. campsite, but it is possible to buy drinks at reception or in the brasserie, where price-quality is also perfect, enjoy. Supermarket is 5 minutes away, so that's also great! The staff are all as enthusiastic and passionate as the owners, everyone is enthusiastic and proud. Work hard: golf carts start driving at 7am and at 10pm I see the same people still working. Car free is really perfect! Let my children aged 4 and 5 wander around the campsite with peace of mind, from playground to playground and of course the double cable car!!
It is quiet, no loud music when animation starts or something like that. And the caravan was also perfectly maintained, mini golf courses still seem brand new even though they are used intensively, etc. And just like the rest of the entire campsite, well maintained, no dirt or litter.
The lake incl. Play options are really an addition. Children had hours of fun.
We even booked an extra night to enjoy ourselves. We are very curious to see what this campsite will be like in a while. We will definitely come again for a weekend or a week to see how much better it has become. pet-friendly: +++
Excursion: day in Düsseldorf! An hour's drive, beautiful city!
Brasserie tip: pizza, schnitzels, currywurst :-)
The place is too expensive for me, and there are no TVs, which bothers me a lot, because when the weather is bad I would like to see something and the food isn't fresh enough for the price, just too many ready-made products...
Kind regards
This was our second time there and we always enjoy coming back! It was wonderful for our children, they do something with the children every day (except Mondays) until the evening! If the children are happy, we are too! And true to the motto, there is no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing, they really carried out their program again and again. There is still one point deduction: you should reconsider the supplier of the rolls. But otherwise everything was clean and great!
Nice and quiet campsite. Particularly suitable for families with young children. Movie Park Germany half an hour's drive away. The lakes at the campsite have a beach and play equipment. Climbing forest at the campsite is fairly extensive and some courses are quite a challenge. I don't really understand the safety system because it is easy to bypass, meaning you can stand completely unsecured in the treetops (so keep a close eye on the children!). Restaurant at the campsite still reasonably priced for what you get.
